ABOUT WOOLWICH SAILING
The Woolwich Sailing School was established by Tristan Eldershaw. Tristan is a pro-sailor with 43 years experience racing various classes of dinghies and keel boats. Starting out at the age of 7 in a Northbridge Junior at the Kingston Beach Sailing Club in Tasmania, Tristan has sailed at an elite international level throughout his adult life. Since the early 1990s, he has campaigned at an international level in 49ers, having based himself in the USA and Europe for an extended period. Tristan has competed in 25 Sydney to Hobart yacht races, and has won the Blue Water Classic twice, both on line honours (Tasmania, 1994) and overall (Yendys, 1999). In the role of navigator, he has consistently placed in the top 5 overall over the past several years. Since the early 2000s, Tristan has successfully competed at an international level in one design keel boats, most notably in the Farr 40s (Evolution, world champion 2005), Mumm 30s (Foreign Affair, world champion 2004; Optimumm, world champion 2008) and Grand Prix offshore racers (multiple) in which he has won a number of world and national championship titles.
Tristan’s love of sailing is matched only by his immense experience. Having spent so many years racing on the international circuit, he enthusiastically seeks to pass on his skills and passion for the sport to the next generation. Tristan is fully accredited by Yachting Australia.
Tristan is assisted in the administration of the sailing school by his wife, Gill.
